Conny Svensson, Razerhorse Technical Advisor and Professional Farrier, recently tried an experiment on The Bank, the fastest 3-year-old trotter and a Hambletonian contender.

Standardbreds are often raced barefoot, but track condition is a huge factor into this decision.

The race in which The Bank set the record for 3-year-old trotters, he was barefoot in front and had a Razer toe shoe on the hind. Conny says that the horse couldn’t race barefoot again last weekend and then do two heats on Saturday for the Hambletonian, and that’s when they decided to do an experiment.

Propad applied without a shoe.

He applied Propads directly on The Bank’s front feet, without a shoe.

“The pads held up really well and Jimmy [Takter] was very happy. He still has them on. We liked it so well that we put them on Shake It Cerry who is also expected to run this weekend,” says Conny.

He reports that track conditions will determine whether The Bank will race barefoot in the Hambletonian or if he’ll wear Razor SP on hind and Propads up front.
