In the $313,800 Miss Pennsylvania Final, Pure Country (last year’s unbeaten freshman) bounced back from her first loss in the previous week’s elimination race, clocking 1:50.3 and winning the inaugural Miss Pennsylvania Classic at The Downs at Mohegan Sun Pocono. Her time in the companion filly event to the Pennsylvania Classic, a state-sired three-year-old pacing colts and geldings race, matched it’s winner, Check Six.
Making his second start of the year, Always B Miki scored decisively in the $25,000 open handicap pace at The Meadowlands. The 5-year-old son of, who was 4-for-4 a year ago, reached three-quarters in 1:22.1 before sprinting home in :27 to record a 2¾-length, never-an-anxious-moment victory in 1:49.1. He now has 19 wins in 37 career starts.
Standardbred pacer Winds of Change won a $15,000 purse at Harrah’s Philadelphia on Mother’s Day (May 8, 2016) with a time of 1:51.0 while wearing Propads.
